Iopio: Doing more with less
Inspired by my experiences in the construction industry, Iopio is modular typographic concept based on a simple layout (or grid) of straight and quarter circle sections. By selecting key sections of the grid any alphanumeric character can be produced. Originally designed as just vehicles for the Iopio typeface; through further development and end-user potential IopioLight and Stencil have become complete design entities in their own right.
Envisioned with simplicity and economy of materials in mind, these prototypes have evolved into symbolic and practical exercises in de-materialisation. A positive response to the energy hungry and over-complexity of many of our industrialised products and processes.
Doing more with less: In a world with more people and dwindling resources, anticipating our needs for continual sophistication and communication in an uncertain future can’t be a bad thing.
Iopio Stencil
A complete portable typographic stencilling concept. These innovative singular systems are not only capable of generating the entire range alphanumeric characters, but also enable equidistant spacing between characters for consistent kerning and leading.
This means from novices to typographers alike, the end user can create reams of professionally finished stencilled text at a time using this one system; to any scale. In fact the bigger the required text, the greater the efficiency of the system with its economy of materials.
