Degree project '96–'97

Architectural model and potential logo. The logo was always something I wanted to omit towards the end and go with the maxim of 'architecture as sign'. Alas my bottle went because I needed a to get a job and created this spark logo as an optional addition to cover myself.

I came up with a basic recharging 'lever' interface. I liked the idea of pulling the switch down to recharge a car like Dr Frankenstein would in an old movie!

My lesson
Have the courage of your conviction. There's obvious room for improvement and St Martins were really supportive. I still like what I produced.

What surprised me was the negative response it received at job interviews, which was frustrating and a little crushing...not at the design (although flawed in many ways; idealistic student project etc) but critical of the premise of the project. A year or two later BP rebranded for real and now it's intrinsic to the climate debate. Timing is of the essence it seems.
